I am a highly experienced accountant who can fulfil most accountancy roles efficiently and with confidence because I have been an accountant since leaving school. Consequently I have dealt with bookkeeping for a multitude of diverse businesses. In particular I was licensed by AAT to engage in public practice in accountancy, taxation and consultancy and had my own accountancy practice for 16 years assisting 200 diverse clients with their accountancy requirements. Please see below for a more detailed summary of my tasks.
Professional Qualifications:
FMAAT Fellow Member Association of Accounting Technicians (1994)
AAT Licensed to engage in public practice in accountancy, taxation and consultancy (1995)
ICAEW Final Part 1 (1975)
IT Skills:
Word, Excel (Pivot, Vlookup), Sun/Oracle/Vision (4.2.6), Sage, Xero, IRIS
Accountancy Practice Roles:
• January 2017 to March 2017 Self-employed accountant – UK
Preparing company accounts including corporation tax and capital allowances computations using IRIS. My Tax Return is available on request. I tried this venture but found it very difficult to attract enough clients to make it viable so it is now a dead duck
• 1986 to 2002 -16 years in my own accountancy practice, licensed by AAT to engage in public practice in accountancy, taxation and consultancy
Performed the usual duties expected of a professional accountant in practice, such as monthly management accounts and bookkeeping (postings to sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, general ledger, fixed asset register) using Sage software (or clients’ similar software), personal and corporate tax returns, payroll preparation, PAYE returns, VAT returns, all company secretarial matters, budgets, cashflow forecasts, bank presentations regarding bank finance and bank overdraft facilities. Became adept at dealing with HMRC investigations. No client ever incurred a late submission penalty for their self assessment tax return
• 1967 to 1986 Audit Senior for 5 Chartered and Certified accountancy firms
London and Kent accountancy practices so large public and SME auditing assignments as an Audit Senior controlling a team of auditors. Other duties similar to my duties in my own accountancy practice (see above from 1986 to 2002). Includes working in Saudi Arabia with Ernst & Young as Audit Senior on Bovis Saudia and Laing Wimpey Alireza audits.
Management Accountant Roles:
• 16th April 2012 to 2nd July 2012 Assistant accountant at A & M Group - London
Maternity leave temp. The company trades in metals (Tin, Zinc, Lead, Tungsten etc). The accounting system used is Sun 4.2.6 with Vision. My duties were to evaluate the trading and overheads transactions for the month and to provide for accruals and prepayments where necessary - also to account for hedging and speculative trading on the LME. Strong Excel skills were required because Vision aids the interaction between Sun and Excel so that more detailed entries within Sun can be recorded. Strong accountancy skills were required because there were multiple databases and currencies to contend with. I performed data input by way of journal entries to the general ledger, purchases ledger, sales ledgers, VAT control and bank accounts in several different currencies. I prepared the consolidated management P&L accounts for April and May 2012 using a combination of Sun, Excel and Vision.

• 16.12.1977 to 3.11.1978 Management Accountant of a subsidiary of Heals and Sons
A well known department store in London (Tottenham Court Road) I started as the bought ledger clerk and was soon promoted to be the Management Accountant leading the accounts department. I prepared monthly management accounts (Profit and Loss Account, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Variances Report). Managed 3 accounts assistants - purchases ledger clerk, sales ledger clerk and the cashier (bank and cash). I dealt with the general ledger postings and monitored the work done by my 3 assistants by using control accounts
